Manaus: the gateway to the Amazon

Manaus, the capital of the state of Amazonas, is the main access point to the Amazon rainforest, the largest and most biodiverse in the world. Located at the confluence of the Rio Negro and the Amazon River, Manaus combines extraordinary nature with a unique history.

A Historical and cultural heritage

Founded in the 17th century, Manaus experienced a period of great prosperity during the rubber boom in the 19th century, an era that left behind significant architectural landmarks. Among the city’s most representative symbols is the Teatro Amazonas, a masterpiece of European-style architecture that reflects the cultural influence of that time.

The Jornalista Phelippe Daou Bridge, also known as the Rio Negro Bridge or the Manaus-Iranduba Bridge, is a symbol of modern Amazonian architecture. This bridge spans the Rio Negro and is the largest bridge in the entire Amazon River basin.

A fascinating natural phenomenon is the “Meeting of the waters,” where the dark, tannin-rich currents of the Rio Negro and the lighter, sandy waters of the Amazon River flow side by side for miles without mixing, creating a unique spectacle.

With a guided visit to the Amazon Museum MUSA  and the INPA Museum of Natural Sciences, you can explore the abundant fauna and flora in nearly 250 acres of nature and climb the 42-meter observation tower to enjoy an extraordinary view.

A balance between modernity and tradition

Despite its natural vocation, Manaus is also a lively and modern city. Local markets and historic neighbourhoods offer a glimpse into everyday life in the Amazon region, featuring authentic flavours, traditional crafts, and a strong cultural identity.

Manaus is not just a city; it is a bridge between the modern world and the oldest and richest environment on the planet. It is a place where nature, culture, and history coexist, offering unforgettable experiences to anyone who wishes to discover its charm.
